    Music Style
The kind that is produced by guitars, bass, drums and other instruments meeting at town hall. They argue for an hour and then agree on an issue.
    Musical Influences
Music can all be stemmed from composers to field calls to the ancient cries of rebellion, love. In other words, figure it out for yourself. We all listen to music from 1900 on.

History is made easily and will repeat. We are neither. We formed two years ago and have played shows at Planet Bean and Toads Place. Debu-taunt, a self produced demo was just released.

    Press Reviews
This was written about our first demo. As someone who really loves music, I tend to be a bit of a grumpy jerk. Especially on the local scene, not a lot of music really excites and interests me. Its not that things aren't good, its just that much of the new releases tend to have a very similar feel. The tricks are all the same. This is why I am so pleased to review the new (and first) Sexy Phil record "Debu-taunt". Rather than synthesizing itself through the funnel of the local standard of souped up pop punk, Sexy Phil embraces a more straight forward and even (gasp!) artful rock and roll sound. Recorded in a basement on guitarist/sometimes vocalist Brian Rowes portable 12 track, the sound can get a bit rough at times, esspecially when dealing with the high end of cymbals and such. But basement recording is difficult, and Sexy Phil makes the most of their sound. The first track, "This Time She Falls Away", kicks off the record with a crunching garage guitar dirge and doesn't look back. The vocals start off a bit soft but give it a few seconds, and they pick up to where they should be quickly. The rhythm is tight(courtesy of drummer Tony Depsquale and Bassist Shane Suddith), and the drums and bass have an interesting groove that drive the songs along. Think of it kind of like The Stooges era "Raw Power" if they were nicer fellas. Drawing its mission statement firmly in the sand, the record moves on to another fine rocker "Kick the Chair". Featuring some fine guitar licks and showcasing a strong vocal personality courtesy of singer/guitarist Britt Harris, "Kick the Chair" holds a cool poker face of rock. Switching gears a bit, "Last Dance" turns down the guitars but takes none of the edge off. Brian sings this track. His voice is very different from Britts but they compliment each other well. Brian has an interesting vocal vulnerability that some may not be able to handle. Un-polished and interesting, with a little bit more confidence behind his voice, Rowes vocals may definetly become a strong weapon in the future of the band. The song itself has a loose structure that is both frustrating and liberating. Great sound overall. Next on the disc is "Invisible", a slicked up grunge song in disguise. The sound is good, and the guitar solo dances in countermelody glory. "Nebraska" tries on a musical guise of acoustic guitars. Not quite an original concept to do an acoustic basement recording called "Nebraska"......but it works well . The emotional frailty is appreciated in the vocals and the slight echo on the guitar gives it good depth. Lastly, the record closes with "Tokyo City", an ironic and cool indie pop song that is what Sexy Phil is all about. Brian sings this track as well. and his fractured lyrics and breathy, almost nervous attack works well here. Like the child of Frank Black and Steve Malkmus, his voice works well in this forum. Starting and then stopping, taking off and landing, rock and rolling, "Tokyo City" is Sexy Phil. Probably the fullest realization of their sound, it is a nicely executed track with a lot of things happening for it. Overall, I really enjoy this recording. A bit rough around the edges but any lack in sound quality is more than made up for by the strong song writing and musicianship. And it doesn't matter, because rock and roll isn't perfect; rock and roll is about fucking things up. Don't shy away from this band because they're not polished, packed and produced like a Boston record. For fans of Built to Spill, Neil Young and Pavement, Sexy Phil is a name to watch. And this is a record to buy. -On a scale of 1-10, I rate this record an 8.5. rock n' roll Review by Ben
