    Artist description
The Actual are a three-piece from Los Angeles that plays "reckless pop." Combining the thrashy gusto of bands like Husker Du and Mission of Burma with the sugary pop of classic bands like Big Star and Cheap Trick, the band ends up with a result that is both catchier and edgier than most of today's bands sitting somewhere along the punk and pop continuum. The band has toured relentlessly in support of The Red EP (2000, Missing Sequences) and will continue to do so without regard to starvation or attendence in support of their debut full-length "Songs On Radio Idaho" (Eyeball Records), out June 3rd.

    Press Reviews
Praise for The Actual’s The Red EP Hailing from Los Angeles, The Actual are one of the more refreshing standouts in the current indie/punk/emo scene. With a relentless touring schedule and a taut, diverse debut they seem poised to take their music to the next level of exposure (i.e. radio, MTV, major label). Live, the band doesn’t give the impression that they aspire to any mass market acceptance. They are heavy, the songs are quirky and angular, and any pop influence is well concealed beneath layers of angst and power. However, by accident or by design, the EP belies a band that could find itself in the national spotlight (or at least on the side stage on the Warped tour) if they aren’t careful. (The Glass Eye) This EP is of the highest order of shorter band releases: those that leave you wanting more. Coupled with the fact that they sent a matching red lollipop along with the demo to sweeten the deal, I can't help but recommend this 18-minute opus; what's there is quite enjoyable. And with all the crap floating around out in modern music land, that's something to keep an eye out for. (Action Attack Helicopter) This LA-based band plays music that, for the most part, is very ready for the radio. I don't mean that in the typical negative way; the songs on here are solid, catchy and aggressive. But they have that "alternative rock hook" to them that would really work on the radio their sound is accessible for today's lazy listener. But it's also a sound that will appeal to fans of indie rock and roll (ala Errortype:11 and Jimmy Eat World, although JEW isn't technically "indie"). This is a five-song EP that will grow on you rather quickly. (Impact Press)
