Artist description
This is rock music poised between the catchy and the experimental, earning comparisons to The Replacements, Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam and The Pixies. Confidence Man began with Dan Hauser's August 2001 ad on a music classified website entitled "Emo/Punk." Dan played ska in college and was looking for a new scene. Glenn was drumming in recent Virginia bands (most notably "Change4a5") and also was into emo music. The two hit it off and began taping ideas on a 4-track in Glenn's basement.
About a month later, James responded to Dan's ad in the City Paper. James had been singing and playing rhythm guitar in a Chapel Hill indie rock band and brought song ideas to complement Dan's. Glenn's former bandmate Brett completed the roster with his driving, melodic bass lines. The band played shows throughout 2002 as Penny Dreadful, and changed its name to Confidence Man at the beginning of 2003.
Confidence Man mixes known rock styles with punk and experimental elements for a tuneful product that is catchy without making you feel too dirty the next morning. Please listen and enjoy.
