Artist History
Born Theresa Rector in 1936, Yodelin Theresa spent her early years moving from town to town throughout Oklahoma, Colorado and Texas. Teaching herself to play the guitar, she found herself a regular on a local radio station in Colorado Springs. In 1948, she sang for all 48 state governors. Continuously moving, she soon found herself in Abilene, Texas as a regular on the Big State Jamboree with Shorty Underwood and the Brushcutters. It was there that she met several big name stars, including Ray Price. Back in Colorado Springs, she went on a brief tour with Lefty Frizzell, whom she had met at a local nightclub. Lefty was impressed with young Theresa, and urged her to go to Nashville, where he said that he would help her to get recognized. Although she declined, he was one of her favorite artists, and also a great person. She also had experiences with Jim Ed Brown, and met Little Jimmy Dickens on a few occasions. Other acquaintances were Floyd Tillman and Hank Laughlin. |
