Artist History
For most in the music business, it is no longer
stars that light their eyes, but dollar signs.
A sense of idealism and passion in music seems to
have escaped from what was once a great art form.
This is not the case with “newcomer” matt megrue.
His music reflects much of the raw passion and
personal revelation that many of the great singer
songwriters of the late 20th century were committed
to. matt’s music seems to free itself from trends
of the “corporatized” rock sounds of the time,
creating an innovative styling that is well
representative of his own perspective on what
music is really supposed to be.
“I hate to be dubbed solely a singer-songwriter.
With that, you get an image of a guy up on
stage clanging on a guitar in a smoky bar.
That’s what I do, but I like to think I
bring a little more attitude with it. I
like to think of myself as the punk of the
singer-songwriter genre.”
--matt megrue
matt made his start early in life (age 13)
bouncing from bands of the Seattle grunge genre
all the way to punk rock. After shifting from
one genre to the next, matt became aware that the
focus needed to be put on the music and the song
rather than the styling. With the help of Brian
McMickle and Al Gardner of Audio Philosophy, matt
pulled from his catalogue of songs, and created
his debut solo album, ...good morning...good nite...
megrue, McMickle, and Gardner crafted a very non
genre-friendly record. Track one doesn’t sound
like track four, or track two like track twelve.
Uniformity is not a driving force of the record,
but that was its’ intention. One song may
depress you, while the next may take you into an
ideal world. The only connection lies in the passions
and experiences that the music is rooted in.
“We really tried to create a record with no
restrictions. We basically went in and
recorded focusing one song at a time, and at
the end pieced everything together. I’m
really proud of what we accomplished.”
--matt megrue
matt draws on his 21 years of experience to form
a musical element that will appeal to any true
musician or intellectual; however, his music is
not exclusive to such an audience. The real life
experiences portrayed in his music make it easy
for any person to relate to the emotions he pours
out in these songs. If you are looking for something original and
innovative, look no further than his debut record,
…good morning…good nite… Instead of trying to
overwhelm your impulses with metal guitar or making
you dance like the social puppets of pop music,
he focuses on how the music needs to bring about
the full potential of his songs. This raw form of
rock music in combination with the singer songwriter
mentality matt embraces, allows any true music
fan to experience this art form in the fashion
for which it was intended.
“I make music for real music fans, and for
musicians. I didn’t really consider the TRL
audience putting the record together. We
just wanted to make music that people could
respect and get into. Something truly
alternative from everything forced down our
throats today.”
--matt megrue
matt comes across as a shy and reserved individual, but through his music, you will discover
an individual full of passion, ideas, experience, and love for music. There is a choice to
live and experience life rather than having it fed to you. The raw experience in music such
as matt megrue’s makes an ideal soundtrack for those longing to experience life, love, and
music.

garageband.com (Troy_Dean) on "Again"
This sweet little number carries a beautiful sentiment as it
consistently sits in a pocket for four and a half minutes. After the
first 90 seconds I was lulled into a mood by the sweet melody and
soundscape. Good production values have done this one justice. Good
lyrics and angelic voices. I couldn't help the image of the Violent
Femmes on stage with the Cure. A sweet, sweet song...

STRAIGHT TO THE POINT. EASY GOING, AND A REALLY NICE CHANGE OF PACE.
THIS IS DEFINATELY SOMETHING TO LISTEN TO AFTER A LONG DAY AT WORK.
RELAXING EVEN. I ESPECIALLY LIKED TO NICE HI-HAT WORK OF THE DRUMMER.
THE LYRICS ARE ONES THAT EVERYBODY COULD RELATE TO IN ONE WAY OR
ANOTHER...

childlike innocence shines through on this one...don't know how else
to describe it...sweet and enjoyable also come to mind...competent
guitar phrases...subdued drums, and tranquil lyrics....
