Artist History
I used to play professionally, but music became a job. I set aside playing for over ten years, and now I am just recording music for my own and other's enjoyment. |

So it's not real hard to figure out that Dennis plays keyboards. In the artist info, he indicates that he set aside playing for over ten years. It sounds like he isn't having too much difficulty getting his chops back (but there are traces of some cobwebs here and there). He cites diverse influences such as jazz organist Barbara Dennerlein, jazz guitarist John Scofield, jazz trumpet player Bill Chase and Jimi Hendrix (you can look the last one up if you don't know who he is ;-) and while I don't claim a lot of knowledge of them all, it's certainly not your typical list of who's who in the jazz top 40.
"A Normal Life (Remix)" - this gets right into it with an intro in 5 that mellows out with a pan-flute style sound that gives way to some synth that kicks right back into the frentic theme in 5. Underlying all this is the organ which finally comes out in a nice, smooth section. After a bit of cat and mouse with a synth line, there's another rush to... a break out of which we launch into a more bass-laden section that features some flying fingers that leads into... well, you listen and find out. This is a roller coaster of time signatures and styles that should give you a pretty good idea of what Dennis can crank out. Even if Hammond organ isn't quite your thing, or jazz in general isn't your thing, there's something in here to admire - particularly for someone just getting back into the "swing of things."
"Stacy's Romp" - this short little 1:20 track features a bouncy line with some nice syncopation. There's no melody to speak of and given the overall length, you'd have the intro, one verse and be left wanting for more. As a teaser of things yet to come (I hope), it works. As a quick demo of some good hand coordination on the keys, it's impressive. I guess all that romping can wear a fella out pretty quick.
