    Artist description
Improvising music to visual stimuli, the acoustic duo sainte chapelle is comprised of Dan Schneider and Gary Pyskacek, the principal songwriters for Chicago's Pedal Steel Transmission. Drawing on the influences of Elizabeth Cotton, Django Reinhardt, and Nick Drake, sainte chapelle combines complicated fingerpicking with morose somber drumming without boring the listener. Spending the last 4 years gathering 8mm footage, they have combined these into various visual imagery in which they improvise and perform live to. Sainte chapelle released a 5 song ep during the summer of 2000, and is currently recording a full length lp at Cardboard Sangria studios.

    Press Reviews
PRESS: Citizen Harold from Minneapolis (ep review) Sainte Chapelle (Cardboard Sangia) Named after a former chapel in Paris, Chicago's Sainte Chapelle creates a delicate evocation of places far away on its debut EP. Created by the duo of Dan Schneider and Gary Pyskacek (both of whom play in the country rock outfit Pedal Steel Transmission), the record was used to soundtrack the multimedia project "To Throw Back Lighter Sound."It is a testament to craft and talent that the music stands well on its own. The instrumental songs bring to mind Will Oldham's Palace and Pedro the Lion in terms of delivery and attitude. Moreover, a strong balance of texture and silence keeps the record from slipping into airiness. The choice of instruments (acoustic guitar dominates, although we are also treated to organ, drums, pedal steel, and assorted other sounds) is key in creating a soundscape that is certainly indebted to folk music, although not necessarily American folk music.Like the chapel it was named for, Sainte Chapelle is distant and beautiful record that haunts after each listen. -August Forte
