Tenacity: By CHRIS TALBOT
Indie band Tenacity is one of the best bands to
come along in years. Self-defined as aggressive
alternative, this heavy rock band's album
Criticize The Critic was the best album to come
out last year. A big hit in South Africa, the
British Columbia-based band has toured all across
Canada and South Africa promoting their albums.
Their first album was Broken Silence. The
four-piece band (Gerry Gareau--vocals,
Emma Ter--bass, Ray Gareau--guitar,
Vivian Blanche--drums) is just as good live as
they are recorded. I had the pleasure of seeing
them play (minus Ter) the last time they came to
Toronto at Club Shanghai. Their current album is
14 tracks of heavy rock music. Pay special
attention to Erotisize and The Rich, the two best
songs on the album. By these two songs alone,
Tenacity shows they have the skills and musical
talent to succeed as a band. Whether the song's
about fucking or a political statement, it's easy
to see why indie bands are starting to get
special attention on cutting edge radio stations
and on MuchMusic. Tenacity, if you're reading,
I can't wait for the next album...or the next tour
date. Surge, Toronto's online music magazine that
crosses all borders. |
