    Artist History
[ HISTORY ]: SHAMOS originated from the ashes of two finnish bands (namely SoulSet and Sad Apple) in May ´96. They started as a 5 piece band consisting of 2 guitarists (Tomi & Arto), bassist (Matti from January ´98), drummer (Migis) and vocalist (Tommi). After half a year of intensive rehearsing and composing they met up with Erkka (a wizard from the land of analog soundscapes) who lifted the band's sound to higher spheres and twisted it to be more psychedelic... SHAMOS was born... [ MUSIC ]: When it comes to making music they try not to compromise but be open to various ideas and that's why SHAMOS' music is as diverse and intriquing as it is; they incorporate the alternative/metal music of the 90s with progressive and heavy elements from the 60s and the 70s. One can hear hints from the bands such as Led Zeppelin, Monster Magnet, Smashing Pumpkins, YES, Pink Floyd, Cream... with touches of oriental moods, of course! [ RELEASES ]: The first demo was recorded on 27th-29th of December ´96 in Astia Studios, Lappeenranta. The tape was never really distributed or sold to the others as it was mainly made to find out how the band worked and sounded in studio. Actually the tape sounds quite good and it shows the stage band was at at that time. Then there was a recording silence that lasted more than a year; during a weekend (12th-14th) in January ´98 the band recorded a rehearsal tape with 4-tracker. The sound quality is decent and the tape shows the huge improvement the band has made only in a year. With this reh.tape they took part in the regional band contest and got in final with 5 other bands (28 tried!). They didn't win but truly gained some good experience. Their newest release, a 3-song MCD entitled 'Technicolor Dreams In 4D', was released on 24th October ´98 by Freaked-Out recordings from Espoo, Finland. The MCD was produced by Jimi Sumén. With this release the band are trying to find more gigs and a record deal with bigger label. [ GIGS ]: SHAMOS have played some 40 gigs so far and they have proved the band to be an excellent and tight live act. They have played one gig outside Finland and that was in June ´97 in Vyborg, Russia. The gig was a success and gained them an interview and airplay on the local TV. THE FUTURE REMAINS TO BE EXPLORED...

    Press Reviews
Skillfully done and particularly the finishing touch (sounds, the whole soundscape and production) is exceptionally magnificent goody for this column. The playing is also good. The song-side is that sound and fury -department which base lies somewhere in the middle of funk and progressive rock. Very original... - in SOUNDI Magazine about "Technicolor..."
