Artist History
Matt Jacobson founded Relapse Records during August of 1990 in the confines of his parents’ basement in Denver, Colorado. Jacobson quickly secured record deals with emerging death metal bands such as SUFFOCATION, DECEASED and INCANTATION utilizing a wide array of contacts he established producing two issues of the underground fanzine Horrendified. Through relentless networking, Jacobson established contact with Bill Yurkiewicz, vocalist for grindcore band EXIT-13. During December of 1990, Jacobson and Yurkiewicz found that their musical tastes and aspirations for releasing music were remarkably similar. The two novice record moguls began the realization of a shared dream and released five records on Relapse and started up a mail-order/wholesale operation. A consuming enthusiasm for well-packaged releases and musical diversity established Relapse as an organization dedicated to providing extreme music fans the highest quality releases. |
