Artist History
Geek Love Explosion!Press ReleaseMay 1999Geek Love Explosion is a new high-energy rock-n-rollband based in Bowling Green, KY. They understand the obstacles they face being from Kentucky. The Geeks want to change the world’s attitude toward the mid-south. They understand rock-n-roll and when you see and hear them you will want more. Big influences for the GEEKS are The Who, The Clash, Social Distortion, The Replacements, The Ramones, Rolling Stones and countless others. The Geek demo was recorded live one Sunday afternoon in a friend’s basement on 8 tracks. There are only seven songs. The band wishes they had the cash to record many more. The basement demo turned out pretty good. When you listen to these one-take versions you will be able to imagine what these guys will be capable of when they are produced in an actual studio. The songs are raw, but they are representative of what you can expect live. At their live shows the Geeks do throw in some “curve ball” covers to liven up things and reel-in non-believers. The demo will be released, and this may be the first in a series of small releases. Scott Willis, singer/songwriter, says that he wants to go back to a time when bands put out fun little records and played to entertain people. His years with Government Cheese have taught him the importance of getting the music heard and to not have it tied-up in contracts and litigation. It is time to lighten-up and have some fun.A little Geek history:Lead singer and songwriter Scott Willis fronted the college radio favorite Government Cheese who had 3 videos appear on MTV and records that stayed on the CMJ chart continuously. “Camping on Acid” reigned in the top 20 for over 6 months! The Cheese became notorious for wildly entertaining crowds to the point of breaking furniture and instruments, blowing amps, bleeding, screaming and any other loud or reckless act that is sure to please a crowd. They were also known for their quirky songs such as “Camping on Acid”(an observation not a provocation), “Mamma Drives the Bus”, and “The Shrubbery’s Dead Where Danny Used to Fall”. Geek Love Explosion remains true to those roots with new songs like “ Geek Love Explosion” (a song about freak love at the county fair), “2000 Light Years Today”(a dark insight into Y2K paranoia), and “This America” (a rock anthem about today’s apathy toward live music). This band is serious, and they want to play and entertain people anywhere they can. They are willing to play any funky gig that comes along to gain more fans. They guarantee to put on a show that will leave all audiences wanting more. This band knows how to read a crowd and mold themselves into the perfect band for the occasion. You must see them to understand. See you at the show! |
