Artist History In the warning days of 1997, the unification of three independent Oklahoma rap groups into MEDU-NETR, meaning "the divine language of God," created an unprecedented musical lore that has been lighting up Tulsa's underground hip-hop scene. MEDU-NETR combines the talents and energies of Somatic Souls, HORSEMAN, BCP and 10 solo lyricist into an organization that has an insatiable desire for what Lecturer/Historian Ashra Kwesi defines as "self-knowledge.Mainly originating from Tulsa, with a few coastal migrants, MEDU-NETR's style is dominated heavily by lyricists who are centered on this reality of knowing oneself. Primarily forged from friendships established in their junior high school years, MEDU-NETR's skills, horned from years of jumping from group to group, merged in what seems to be a perfect marriage.Producers KWRECK, BROTHA BET and SREAL have established themselves as the key masterminds behind the group's debut album. More than just another rap group, MEDU-NETR does not fit the stereotypical rap mentality. Each of the producers perform dual roles as lyricist along with jon doe, EB, HOOCH, DURTY BURD, SOUTHPAW, SYNTAXX, C-SELF, JAMES THE JUST, VISION, CJ, CALLUS, SNAKIZE, CRAPS and NATURAL, who find direction and focus from history, mathematics and science.With such a vast membership, MEDU-NETR has the entire lyrical hip-hop corners covered, from SYNTAXX's old-school battling to EB and DURTY BURD's militant word playing skills to KWRECK, HOOTCH and BRUTHA BET's raw, stylistic flows. The core foundation of MEDU-NETR lies in their consolidation into one giant light beam. And this oneness generates into the communal attitudes they share, as evident in the pooling of their resources to purchase and renovate a former crack house and turn it into a studio. From the MEDU-NETR Studio- aka the laboratory- the band writes engineers and mixes their latest tracks on the topics ranging from money and sex to intellectual guidance.In search of the ultimate truth, MEDU-NETR filters universal perceptions through internal "knowledge of self." With their various backgrounds, MEDU-NETR's primary concerns are to be "a progressive organization promoting global consciousness for social, economical and political reforms," states EB - EQUALITY BORN.
