    Artist History
A bittersweet center bundled in an oh so tasty candy shell. This is what makes up the delightful morsel that is The Vague. Since its inception in late 1994, the common thread that holds this outfit together is a genuine love for power pop. Within a couple of months of Chuck Oney (Vocals, Guitar, Bass and Keys), Scott Carr (Guitars and Vocals) and Jamie Forsythe (Guitar, Bass and Vocals) joining forces, they began laying the foundation for what would be their first demo. It would be nearly three years before they would recruit Chris Mills (Drums and Percussion) and round out the quartet. Their songs, catchy and somewhat sardonic, are a welcome departure from the "stare at your feet" approach to music, which has dominated the industry in the 1990's. Instead the band chooses to bounce about a playground of pop carousels and richly textured harmonies. Harmonies that would become their signature and set them apart from other bands on a local and national level. The Vague has shown itself to be an accomplished live act. They have performed with a number of national acts including Ace Frehley, Enuff Z' Enuff and Everything. They were invited to play the Columbus Arts Festival as well as the Regional Music Showcase in St. Louis. In the latter they performed an impressive set alongside such bands as Local H, Our Lady Peace and The Sun Sawed in 1/2. In addition, they have played the International Pop Overthrow Festival in Los Angeles, along with such artists as John Faye and The Tories. Not only has The Vague proven itself on the stage, the band's studio works have earned them slots on a number of national and international releases. From their first demo, whose single "Mr. Two Face", was released on the now defunct UMS Records, the band started gaining attention in the power pop community. In 1998, The Vague submitted the single "94" which earned them the distinction as one of the top twelve Musician Magazine's "Best Unsigned Bands of 1998", a contest sponsored by Atlantic Records. They have contributed a song to an upcoming Nick Gilder tribute album on Gremlin Records. They have also recorded the song “ Blockbuster” for a 2002 Bullseye Records release entitled "Are You Ready,Steve?:A Tribute to Sweet". The band recorded their first full length release,"Divorcing the Shame", with Tom Boyer (Howlin' Maggie, Scrawl, Watershed and The Fabulous Johnson Brothers) in 2002 to much critical praise, both locally and nationally. Time will only tell what is in store for this power pop band born in Cowtown, Middle America. One thing is for sure -- Whatever it is, The Vague is a band to be experienced and enjoyed, but never ignored.
