    Artist description
In short... Crustacean [as in 'hardshell'] plays energetic and unpolished metal that sometimes hints back to American thrash from the Eighties, and sometimes thrusts forward Nineties' Scandinavian riffing. Crustacean is a band with a history of eight years of playing live, and that counts! And if you bear in mind the experience from gigging and touring with such renowned acts as Master (USA), Spina Bifida, Outburst (f.k.a. Acrostichon) and the Slayer Coverband you know we mean business. And to think that we've still got a long time ahead of us... Crustacean is a band with a lot of airplay, extremely positive reviews at home and abroad and fans of all ages. With music that also appeals to non-metalheads and of course the indispensible right connections we definitely see a glorious future lying ahead of us.

    Artist History
The foundation for Crustacean is laid in 1989 by JVI (drums) and NVZ (Bass). After five years of Crystal Lake, 1 demo, 2 rehearsal tapes, some gigs and plenty of disorder in their line-up they enter the Double Noise studio in Tilburg, Holland February of 1994. There they record their 2nd demo "Rip Off". Because they decide they want to 'come clean' in a sense, they change their name into 'Crustacean'. A move that bears fruit... Because the following summer they're placed on a local compilation-CD called "No Sleep 'Til Burg". The gigs that come out of this release prove their raving metal to work really well live. This led to a contract with the young 'Double Noise Recordings' for which they record a mini-CD called 'Headcleaner'. This recording is released March 1995 and spawns lots of positive reviews, airplay and interviews. This however, does not prohibit Crustacean from making a major change of course. A major line-up change follows. Their style, often compared to bands like 'Death' and 'At the Gates', makes way for the crude Slayer approach. Dutch label 'Teutonic Existence' released Crustacean's first full length CD 'Burden Of Our Suffering'. This debut album ended up second place in Aardschok's top 50! In 2000 Crustacean recorded the mini-cd "Satanized", which was only to be released on the Internet. In April 2001 Crustacean record their second full-length album "Insaniac" at Harrow Productions. With guitars tuned down big time, Insaniac sounds like a blend of Slayer and Autopsy. This album will be released February 25th 2003 on Cold Blood Industries.

    Press Reviews
Extraterrestrial civilizations visiting earth will probably laugh their pants off witnessing the low intelligence of the human race. But thanks to bands like Slayer and Tilburg based Crustacean they will not doubt the great musical taste of the human race. Crustacean started out as a different deathmetalband, but now concentrates themselves on hi-quality uncompromising thrashmetal, thrashmasters Slayer being their sole example. Tom Paulusses vocals sometimes do resemble the vocals of Sacred Reich's vocalist Phil Rind, but for the remainder Crustacean resembles Slayer. Are these Slayer influences bad? Not in this case. The ten songs (total playing time 30 mins like that classic Slayer album) are so energetic and impressive that no one will probably care what influences Crustacean have. From the brutal opening track 'Bitter State' Crustacean grasps your attention with aggressive, fast and catchy thrashmetal. Only for a moment will they slow down (title track) just to make your neck muscles contract instinctively. Songs like 'Deathly grin', the crushing 'Injected with Blood' and the groovy 'Drawn from the Grave' (my favorite) just can't be played enough. Because the album only lasts 30 minutes Crustacean added two 'underground' bonustracks. But I didn't need them, I was already convinced! Ron van Hal for Aardschok magazine (81 points). We ended up 2nd place in Aardschoks soundcheck that month!
