Artist description
Recently de-funked, Stir Fry was a high energy Ska/Punk
band that carried a live stage show which was hard, if not
impossible to beat. With their theory of playing a show with
the audience as opposed to playing it for the audience
they brought to the stage a pshyco-skankin-booty-shaking-good timin'
atmosphere that shook the party scene in Santa Barbara, CA.
With fast moving guitar styles, horn lines that never leave you alone,
and a driving beat to keep you moving, Stir Fry brings a great blend
of Ska-Punk that is just down right happy. A bright light in these dark
times of depressing, angry rock. |

Artist History
Stir Fry started on the third floor of the North Tower
of Francisco Torres. A scandalous freshman dorm of
UC Santa Barbara. Elysia and Justin had been in a band
together back in the San Fran Bay Area, and upon going to
UCSB, decided to create another one.At the start it was
just two guitars and two horns. Needless to say the hallmates hated Justin
for the hours of rehearsal every week. But with persistance,
Justin, Elysia, Jeff, and Aaron managed to get in contact with
Dave (the first of three drummers) and moved their rehearsals to
a wonderful cliff side cottage. After a year of writing songs and
forming what they could of a band, they split for the summer in hopes
of finding a bassist to complete the equation. By extreme chance,
Layton was found and brought in to handle the other half of the soon to
be notorious, 'rhythm section'. With Jeff on the Sax, Aaron on the trumpet,
and a last minute addition of Sean on Trombone, the horn section and the band
hit the stage with their first show in October of 1999.
From that point on Stir Fry rocked the socks off of everybody who
went to their shows and had a great time doing it.
After a year they sadly lost Dave to 'real life' when he graduated.
(They congratulate him on his recent wedding engagement...and are bummed
they didn't get hired as the reception band.) But not to be shot down,
Stir Fry enlisted the help of Andrew, Dave's old roommate.
Now with a new and faster drummer they set out again to kick some Isla Vista booty,
and succeeded. Somewhere during this time, Sean disappeared without a trace.
And, once again, fate drove another drummer away. Far away, to Japan.
Spary is now somewhere teaching Japanese how to speak English.
Then Stir Fry got their hands on Chris. Who had never listened to much,
if not any, ska before he became the new drummer.
The gods smiled upon Stir Fry because the equation was finally settled.
And it has remainded the same to this very day. |
