Artist description
A pastiche of modern metal, hardcore, and punk styles with a lyrical approach deeply rooted in the classic forms of the parody, the farce, the satire, and the diss. The diss, a lyrical mode usually associated with Battle Rapping, is taken to another level by the boys of Maniac's Steel Lung Crew. Where in its traditional use the diss invites reciprocation from the party being dissed (therefore becoming a "Battle" of words)a Maniac diss typically leaves the dissed party in such a severe state of dismay and shock that the mental resources needed for retaliation are no longer available.
Take into consideration the case of supposed Maniac rivals, Pitfighter. Little more than an imaginary band with unattainable plans, rumors began circulating of pretenders to Maniac's crown as "The Original Kings of Insane." All fingers pointed to Pitfighter as the would be usurpers. Before this regiment of bearded halfwits could even initiate a true battle with the monster rock pioneers, Pitfighter had been immortalized, demonized, and minituarized in not one but two Maniac disses. "Peachfighter" and "Life's a Bowl of Cherries and You Guys are the Pits" tore the morale of the Pitfighter
collective to such shreds that all plans for recording and live performances have been shelved for an indefinite amount of time. Reports have come in that many members of Pitfighter have even taken to playing in pop rock groups and fluffy emo bands. Whether this is proof of their diminished mental state due to their tongue lashing courtesy of BB Bradshaw, The Profane one Jonny UltraViolence, and Joseph Waltussin Assteam or a sort of self induced penance for their trespassings against Naples favorite sons has yet to be determined. |

Artist History
Naples is well known for its beautiful beaches, abundance of landmarks named after pelicans, and the legacy of its underground musical visionaries, the founding fathers of what is most commonly referred to as the FDO Crew.
Whether as The Naples Death Squad/Suburban Guerrillas during the mid nineties hardcore haydays of Failsafe, Short Order, and The Asthmatics or as The Eugene Fullstacks/Sufferers of Various Complexes during the Jazz/Prog era of the late nighties
they have always been the keepers of an enigmatic coolness that many can only hope to understand let alone experience. Maniac is the most tangible and complete representation of these artists, poets, warriors, and prophets from days long past.
There usually is a method to this kind of madness but rarely with such conviction and never with such flamboyance. |
