Artist History
Being from Maine isn't all that bad. Really. At least not if you're into local music. Following a long list of local successes comes Portland's own Headstart. The quintet has seemingly come from nowhere and is just as happy as can be to find themselves a part of Portland's local music scene. Writing power-pop-rock songs riddled with vocal and guitar hooks the band has quickly found themselves playing frequently to (hopefully) happy crowds. Playing with Jeremiah Freed, Paranoid Social Club, Even All Out, and Pete Kilpatrick they find themselves part of a community of bands sharing fans and stages every night.
From the ashes of the local band Shufflin' Tremble (or Loud Neighbor, if you prefer to remember them that way) comes frontman Kevin Kennie. Disappearing for two years after Shufflin's Dec. of 2000 breakup Kevin recorded and wrote song after song, working on song-writing, recording, and singing in his time away from the stage. Another local band, Warmfront, was seeking a new singer in November of 2002, and remembered Kevin from Shufflin'. After contacting him and meeting one another they met for a practice. With Ben Flood on guitar, Adam Parvanta on drums, Nate Warren on bass, and Kennie on vocals the band immediately took to one another and began writing songs. Looking for a rhythm guitarist/backup singer the former Warmfront members asked Ian Blanchard, a high school friend, to come to a practice. Ian's voice blended perfectly with Kevin's and his rhythm guitar allowed Ben to play lead lines. In Feb. of 2003 the band went into Big Sound Sutdios and recorded an 11 song album with Jonathan Wyman. Wyman engineered and mixed the album, as well as producing it with Kennie. With people like Walt Craven (6gig), Spencer Albee (Rocktopus), and Trent Gay (Trailor) stopping by to lend voices, keys, guitars, and even additional production for the album the band has come out with something quite worth hearing. Having it mastered by Adam Ayan at Gateway Mastering in Portland didn't hurt the project either. After being heard by TJ McNaboe of RC Kincaid Global Entertainment LTD the band quickly had management, and is now working on putting themselves in front of as many crowds as they can while continuing to write and record songs. And as the first summer for the band approaches you can bet you'll see and hear more from these guys as they continue to grow, along with a ready-to-explode music scene in Portland, Maine. No, not Oregon...Maine. Really.
