Artist History
13 Broken Fingers were dragged kicking and screaming into existence in March 2002. Featuring former members of Lucky 13, Road To Embo and Humus Kife, 13 Broken Fingers provide a full-on energetic and frenetic emotional hardcore punk rock experience.
United by a common love of punk rock and all things noisy and unsociable, the idea for the birth of 13 Broken Fingers was hatched by guitarist Craig and vocalist Derrick whilst consuming copious amounts of alcohol in Stirling, where all four members attend university. Cypriot drummer Costas was next to join the circus after being introduced to Derrick by his Greek flatmates. A powerful and creative drummer, Costas provides the solid backbone to the 13 Broken Fingers sound.
The line-up was orginally completed by bassist Linda, but `creative differences` saw her leave the band before the first shows had been played, but after the first of two DIY rehearsal room demo tapes had been made with the assistance of a four-track and two malfunctioning microphones. Finding themselves without a bass player five days before their first gig provided a major headache, but salvation came in the shape of George, who had never played the bass in his life. However, after hastily agreeing with a somewhat drunken Derrick, George picked up a borrowed bass and with the assistance of the aforementioned DIY demo, put his previously acquired guitar playing skills to good use and joined the ranks of `The Fingers`.
After playing their first show in the most punk rock of venues, being the previously mentioned Rehearsal Room in the grounds of Stirling university, the band set about writing a clutch of new material. Further live shows, including a controversial set at the SUSA Spring Festival held at the infamous Tolbooth Theatre in May 2002 that saw their set cut short, much drunken riotous behaviour from members of the audience and a pissed-off anti-Nazi rant, resulted in 13 Broken Fingers impressing the crowds with their blend of full-throttle hardcore punk and emotional melodic sensibility.
Mixing a vast array of influences, ranging fom the hardcore/ska stylings of Operation Ivy and the poiticised punk rock fury of Dead Kennedys to the metal offerings of Metallica and Iron Maiden through to the art-school guilty conscience of ....Trail of Dead and Sonic Youth, 13 Broken Fingers provide a refreshing blast of incendiary noise for your listening pleasure. With a powerhouse rhythm section and guitars that are equal parts serrated and sensitive, coupled to a cathartic and emotive vocal style (some would argue an `angry lizard` style), 13 Broken Fingers serve up an intense and dramatic live experience.
Make sure to catch them live whenever they play in your area.
