    Artist description
The Spotlight Syndicate is a 3 piece band from Reno, Nevada consisting of Nick (Bass/Vocals), Carolyn (Keyboard) and Jeff (Drums). The band was started in the fall of 2002 about 6 months after the breakup of This Computer Kills, Nick and Jeffs previous band. Pulling influences from such bands as The Cure, Moss Icon, The Faint, The Smiths, Gang Of Four, Fugazi, Cursive, U2, The International Noise Conspiracy, and many others, The Spotlight Syndicate create an interesting blend of rock music with a dancy edge.

    Press Reviews
This Computer Kills has mutated into a band with one of the freshest approaches in Reno — bass and drums merging with synths to play music that’s not even remotely wussy. The complex rhythms of TCK are transplanted to more danceable fare, creating a fusion of ’80s pop, ’90s complex punk and the darker mod/punk fusion of groups like The International Noise Conspiracy or Radio 4. The live-sounding production benefits these tunes, which strike a nice balance between colder music and emotional lyrics ranted by singer and adept bassist Nick (no last names). Extra points for the poison love-letter to Reno, “One Dance,” which avoids the obvious whining about the city for something both sinister and celebratory. On “Static,” the Syndicate proves two things: just because you have a synth doesn’t mean you have to be a lame ironic version of Duran Duran, and your band can be just as “punk” without even touching a six-string.
