Artist description
Skylar Blue is an alt-rock trio that has the energy of a hard-rock band, and the pop sensibility of a Top 40 group that was formed out of the ashes of Houston bands "NeverTheLess" and "Liquid Youth". Skylar Blue is comprised of members Kody Kuehn (Vocals/Guitar), Phil Hodges (Bass), and Ryan Vyner (Drums).
The problem with a lot of popular rock music today is that most of the thematic elements are dark and negative. Skylar Blue, on the other hand, deals with problems on the upside, with a positive spin. "Our songs are about the three most important things to me; my friends, my faith, and my family", says lead singer/guitarist Kuehn. Now don't mistake Skylar Blue for a Christian Band. They align themselves more with bands like Blindside, POD, and Chevelle. "We're basically a group of guys, who play songs about our lives, and sometimes our faiths make it in there, but by no means are we a religion-oriented band", says bassist Phil Hodges.
The members of the band are in no way rookies to the live music industry. Vyner's old band "NeverTheLess" often played at clubs on the Northwest side of Houston, while Kuehn and Hodges' old band "Liquid Youth", played the Vans Warped Tour three times over the course of five years and have three releases under their belt, as well as over 150+ logged club shows.
Citing influences that range from Finch to Trust Company to Chevelle, Skylar Blue is redefining a stale genre of music that is Alternative Rock. Fusing heavy rock riffs with catchy pop hooks, Skylar Blue wins over people who like everything from Hardcore, Pop-punk, and Alt-rock, to Top 40 pop rock.
