    Artist History
In late December 1998 Stan_I. and M.S. got an idea of the project's foundation. Two winters had passed and at the end of the year 2000 the idea found its embodiment in the recording of "Raining December" debut album. Eternal themes of love, loneliness and human tragedy exposed in the album present the pattern of true darkwave, one of the few Russian albums, which hardly complies to Western colleagues. On the 4th of November 2001, STILLIFE took part in the "Edge of the Night IV" festival, sharing the stage with PURPLE FOG SIDE and ENDRAUM. In November 2001 top Russian label "Irond Ltd." presented the CD release of STILLIFE's debut album "Raining December", which also included couple of bonus tracks. The Western gothic community cordially estimated it. "Resistance! Radio" from Germany even claimed this disc as "the album of the month". On the 3rd of November 2002 the regular gothic Halloween party "Edge of the Night V" was held at "Tochka" club in Moscow. This time STILLIFE played together with DIARY OF DREAMS. The show almost concurred with the release date of "Only Silence" mCD. The title track from this disc hit Russian independent radio-charts, sharing the leading positions with such well-known projects as t.A.T.u. and Bi-2. According to the pole results of www.gothic.ru STILLIFE was recognized the best Russian gothic band of 2002. The year 2003 saw the collaboration of STILLIFE with German project ENDRAUM. STILLIFE made the version of ENDRAUM's title track "Traumstaub", that would be featured on ENDRAUM's new album bearing the same name in the beginning of 2004. The result of ENDRAUM's work was the remix "Es ist die Stille" (Endraum's vision), included in the new album of STILLIFE entitled "Remembrance", ready to be released by "Irond Ltd." in November 2003.

"RAINING DECEMBER" CD Stillife is a Russian gothic/darkwave project that was founded in 1998. Raining December is the debut album with a long intro. Project's founders Stan I. and M.S. use lyrics in German and English and eternal themes of love, loneliness and human tragedy. This is a perfect night listening album with a combination of dark folk, ethereal and poetic classical music. It ranges from gloomy, danceable to melancholic and calm. Sometimes the music makes me think of bands like Seelenfeuer and Goethes Erben. Especially Nur Das Schweigen is a good example of that. Furthermore The Green Island and Meine Frau are included as bonus tracks. If you listen very well you can discover samples from The Crow (movie) in Outside. - Darker Than The Bat / "ONLY SILENCE" mCD After an acceptable debut-album "Raining December", the Russian Stillife delivers 5 new songs. Their gothic style has been a little bit placed in the background while their neo-classical inspiration comes more on the forefront! The songs have been already sung in English and German language by their female vocalist. The opening cuts "Only silence" and "So leicht zu glauben" are really interesting for the kind of slow breakbeats and triphop rhythms that have been recovered with dark neo-classicism. The sound of the viola adds this melancholic and sad feeling while showing an artistic composition. This somber side has been reinforced on the "Necropolis" song, which is nothing else than a song of Penitent! I personally prefer the modern approach and evolution that they show on the opening cuts. Both pieces remain the best exponents! But if you definitely prefer the pure neo-classical genre, the last cut entitled "Nevermore" is really cool. They used violins, piano, cello and viola to compose this dark piece of music. Stillife remains one of the best productions I've heard from Russia and this maxi sounds as an honest successor to their debut! - Side-Line Music Magazine
