Artist description Short Fiction is a band of four people that play music. We are based out of the small hovel, Cullowhee, NC. We all go to Western Carolina University. Between rolicking, ramshackle shows, we attend class.

Artist History The history, as Jeff sees it. . .Eric and Jeremy kicked around the idea of forming a band while in college for a while. Jeff did too. Jeff played with the Yardapes and Ekstam, two bands he helped start that all folded in 2000. Then Jeff met Eric while in Newt Smith's writing class. The two hit off because of their mutual admiration of each other's t-shirt choices. Then Jeff was approached by Jeremy after a poetry slam to start a band. The whole thing fell together during a jam in Jeremy's dorm (With the help of Mike Wannagut playing keyboard drums). Jeff was amazed at the musicianship and prowess of Eric and Jeremy, and E + Jeremy were amazed at JEff's stature (JEff is amazingly, ogrish tall.) The three met two kids in Sylva and started the Donner Search Party. That flunked out. Jeremy left the country in disgust and Jeff and Eric started Fall of Rome with some other kids. FOR wasn't a bad band. With the aid of a real drummer, Jeff and Eric saw their songs take shape. But something was missing. . .Jeremy and Joel. The drummer for FOR flunked out and the other guitarist was kicked out. Jeff and Eric went back to the drawing board. With the return of Jeremy, the three started crafting more songs. A drummer was needed. In retrospect it is not clear how the three met Joel, but they did. And he was a great fit. After hewing out the details and finer points of their music, the four dubbed themselves Short Fiction. (That's another story all together) And they hit the Cullowhee circuit. In May of 2003 the quartet recorded the first demo. A five song work produced by Jason Melvin. The demo contained the songs In the Morning, Crusade, With a Whisper, Moonlight Serenade, and If I had a rock. In the summer of 2003 the band has been fiddling around in various towns all over NC, working on songs, and planning the future.
