Artist History
The origin of the funk rock-collective "Five Minute Riot" took shape out of a few nightly open jam sessions "What impressed me most," recalls singer/drummer Marc Capaldo, "was the way [bassist Dave Geschwendt’s] right hand was connected to my right foot." The tight rhythms and slinky grooves the duo thrived on were soon augmented by guitarist Jeff Berner, who was duly impressed with the pair: "I quickly realized that this was the rhythm section I was looking for: tight, responsive, and flexible." The three became "Five Minute Riot" in February 2003.
The music of Five Minute Riot is best described as high-spirited funk-rock, augmented with three-part harmonies and hummable, catchy choruses. Perhaps the most pressing evidence to the preceding can be found on their 2003 release, "Hoints Away", consisting of five original songs.

Press Reviews
"This trio is heavy on the rhythm and grooves and makes the most of a three-piece ensemble while never forgetting that many people are drawn to music by melody.
If you like the spirit of Stone Temple Pilots or the vocals that Rob Thomas brings to matchbox twenty, then you are likely to enjoy Five Minute Riot and their five-song CD, ‘‘Hoints Away.’’
Great for dancing
Five Minute Riot can get very heavy at points, almost reflecting a heavy metal band in the spirit of Ozzy Osbourne or Metallica. But while this ensemble’s sounds might be a little hard on the ears, they must certainly deliver a solid sound for a great night of dancing.
This drive for dancing can probably be traced back to Five Minute Riot’s enjoyment of Stevie Wonder, Sly & the Family Stone, James Brown and the Commodores, whose contribution to contemporary music generally reflects the powder-puff offerings of former band member Lionel Richie rather than the gritty urban punch of songs like ‘‘Brick House.’’ (John W.Barry The Poughkeepsie Journal) |
