Artist History
Lepus originally formed as an instrumental trio that included x-Atrocity members Rich (bass) and Jeff (drums). In the death metal band Atrocity Rich and Jeff had played together since 1985 releasing 3 demos (Ravaged By Disease 1987, Mangled 1988, Hatred Birth 1989) that drew the interest of many labels like Metal Blade and Peaceville. Eventually they took a contract with the cult UK label Metal Core (also home to Tiamat and Jag Panzer) owned by Plastichead Music and released two CDs (Infected 1990, Art of Death 1992).
After a lengthy hiatus that followed the break up of Atrocity, Rich hooked up with his close friend Frank (guitar) with the interest of forming a new more melodic band. Frank had appeared in numerous heavy rock cover bands over the years committing himself to the true rock and roll experience of just playing out and enjoying life before deciding that the time was now to start laying down his own tracks.
A quick phone call to Jeff was enough to get his interest and the three began getting together playing instrumental covers of Poison Idea, Melvins, Misfits and Witchfinder General. Eventually the jam sessions would lead into original arrangements that quickly demanded vocal attention.
While surfing the internet Rich had come across an ad Phil (vocals) had left for musicians needed to form band. Really a chance meeting as Rich was the only one to even answer the obscure ad. The biggest surprise being that both had such similar musical interests. Phil like Rich an Jeff had a history in the underground most recently releasing two cds with the hardcore punk band Blastmat (Theme For A dying World 2001, MCMLXXXVI 2002) and a cd with his solo experimental industrial electronic project Loathe (Complete Recordings 1995 - 2003).
And so the story goes, short and sweet. What the future holds time will tell. Currently Lepus are writing songs for the upcoming full length CD "The Myths of Man" expected to be released by late Summer 2003. A four song promo should be completed and available by Spring and shows will begin in the early Summer months.
