Artist description
“The song is the thing”
(Someone way back whenever)
Nothing can be truer for the band PimpHat, who redefine the phrase. With members of diverse musical backgrounds and a wealth of live playing experience, PimpHat is more than most bargain for.
The bands combined influences ranging from blues and funk to pop and jazz to progressive to rock and metal to………………well you get the idea.
From the hard driving “Chili-Peppers-ish” funk rock of “Pass it Around” to the groovy, yet desperate “Lonely”, PimpHat redfines playing with feel. In this group, versatility is the key.
Singer Greg Henry has been singing “since he was born” and has the classic frontman ability to entertain. Combine this with an ability to write “feeling provoking lyrics” and you only begin to piece the PimpHat puzzle together. Guitarist Mike Fruend can “stab you” with quick riifs or solo’s dripping with feel. Guitarist Brian Mariano “can punch you in da mouth” with power chords or bring you to tears with his solo work. Bassist Paul Bugie’ piles runs and fills under, around and between it all, even sometimes leading the fray. The calm behind the storm, with a subtle yet unmistakable contribution is the “rock solid, steady” drummer Chris Smith who brings order to it all.
Formed in the Fall of 2001, they took the time to get to know each other musically before recording their introductory studio demo of seven songs. With an impressive response from the listening audience, PimpHat will play anywhere, anytime……even at the opening of an envelope.
