    Artist History
In the tradition of the post-apocalyptic mind, Tribal Machine explores the alienation and disillusionment of urban life. To the creator of Tribal Machine - musician Sever Bronny - the sound is an electronic romp through the woods with Jim Morrison, John Lennon and Trent Reznor. These men are his leading musical influences because of their strengths as individuals and their desires for musical experimentation. Technologically reformed, influenced by rock and folk with ballad-like elements, the music is mechanical, full of selective dissonance. Ambient waves with careful combinations of aggressive, yet ethereal electronics and ‘bigger-than-life’ vocals round out the sound. Tribal Machine’s debut album, “The Awakening of the Animal”, explores themes of change, emotion and subjective experience. There is a sense of personal growth in the lyrics, and an innovative optimism in the sound. What makes it so different is that the music finds hope in the most unlikely places, through delusion, insight and pain. As Sever has once said, ‘In a world of loneliness, sometimes the only thing that is real is knowing that someone out there feels the way you do.’ This is the focus of Tribal Machine: to bring people together through a common bond. It is the awakening of us all, the awareness that experiencing emotion is part of being human. The music itself is recorded, created, produced and engineered with a computer using Cubase VST, Cool Edit Pro, synthesizers, drum modules, personal sampling, guitars and vocals. Contrary to popular belief, music created in an electronic manner does not lack emotion. In Sever’s view, “eclectic and versatile compositions of sound create a living and breathing musical entity”. He feels that Tribal Machine fills a role as the antithesis of generic music. Sever Bronny lived in Europe and Africa for part of his childhood, and now resides in Canada. The dramatic life he experienced in Africa has influenced him the most. When he was a boy, Sever lived with people of many races and creeds. Sever’s best friend did not speak his language, so for five years he communicated like only kids could. That ‘community feeling’ is something he felt was lacking in North American thinking. His music expresses these elements of change, difference and hypocrisy, a quality that can be heard in Sever’s songs, as each one brings something new to the table. He has created many songs for Tribal Machine on his own, releasing a slow trickle to the public. He is a multi-talented musician who plays synthesizers, sings, produces, engineers, programs and is the original songwriter of the project. In mid 2002 Sever welcomed Brian Hartlen on board to help steer Tribal Machine onto the stage. He is from British Columbia, which is where he spent most of his childhood. Hartlen helps add layers of color, emotion and dynamics with guitars and ethnic instruments as well as direction. Tribal Machine is now in the process of transferring its vitality and energy onto the stage, as Sever firmly believes that the raw power of the music will truly come out during a live performance. Tribal Machine is not a revolution. It is however, a realization. It is an awakening.
