Press Reviews
"They may have taken forever to set up their equipment at the Gold Dollar last Friday, but the late-arriving C3 was well worth the wait. With their crazy rhythms and tight-as-knots time change mastery, this Grand Rapids trio combined hyper-precise chops on guitar, bass and drums with a bit of futuristic synth programming, for some of the state's premier prog-punk music. Their approach lies more along the lines of such post-punk art-blurspeed titans as DNA and the Ruins than with Rush or your average local Zappa sycophants. C3 squeezed their dense brand of progressive rock into short-attention-span originals, as well as covers of Gabriel-era Genesis and Sham 69 (Though, sadly, they didn't pull out their brilliantly wrong cover of Chuck Mangione's piece of uber-schmaltz, "Feels So Good"). C3's herky-jerky prog-rock excerises and arcane note progressions made them the perfect complement to the Immigrant Suns, for whom they opened. Here's to more frequent C3 appearances around here. - Greg Baise --printed from IN ONE EAR column.. |
