Reviewed by Steve Morse of the Boston Globe as one of the up-and-coming headliners in Boston, Bowman is a singer songwriter with a soulful stab and ricochet poetry. There are many good reasons you should hear this song. A long bio isn't one of them. Just listen.

    Artist History
Bowman is a singer/songwriter creating and performing original pop/rock. With this album Bowman proves himself to be a multifaceted artist as he composed all of the songs and handles guitar, bass and vocal duties. The recording lineup for Believe was completed by John Sands, Larry Finn and Nick Hoffman on drums, and Zoux, who also co-produced the CD with Bowman, on keyboards. Believe is comprised of two different recording sessions. The first resulted in a six song EP that was released last year. Bowman then went back into Wellspring Sound Studio in Concord, MA to record the songs that completed the album, including "Waiting for a Better Day," and the opening track, "Tear My Heart Right Out." Billy Bowman originally hails from Maryland and came to Boston to attend the Berklee College of Music. He says, "there I learned everything I didn’t want to be." After two years at Berklee, he dropped out and started performing in the T stations of Boston. The subway was surprisingly kind to him as he now has countless fan signatures on the lyric books that he carried with him. He recalls the experience fondly noting that, " it was nice to see music breaking through boundaries, where all kinds of people were into it." That’s when Lynda Morgenroth from the Boston Globe noticed him. She described Bowman as "progressive rock with a soulful stab of ricochet poetry." Later he studied with renowned vocal coach, Mark Baxter. It was through Baxter that Bowman discovered he could sing effectively and with great emotion without hurting his voice. From there, he began performing in nightclubs around Boston with various bands backing him up, including the Innocents. After only one performance at the Hard Rock Café Matt Scencio raved that he has, "a dynamic and soulful sound, check’em out!" Bowman has gained attention from the press, including Steve Morse of the Boston Globe who called him one of the up-and-coming headliners in Boston, and attracted a loyal local following with his energetic live performances. The album really showcases his talent for writing well-crafted pop/rock songs.

    Press Reviews
Billboard - Continental Drift - October 2000 - by Larry Flick "Bow, Bowman: With "Believe," Billy Bowman offers a collection that seems to proudly pay tribute to the lean, no-frills sound of early Tom Petty and John Mellencamp. The Boston-based rocker has an instantly engaging voice that is, by turns, warmly romantic and aggressively raspy. Throughout the set, he flexes clever, relationship-driven lyrics in arrangements that are appropriately spare. In that kind of setting, songs either soar or sink. Much of the material on "Believe" sparkles and demands repeat spins. Although Bowman originally hails from Maryland, Boston’s become his home ever since he attended the Berklee School of Music. "There, I learned everything I didn’t want to be," he says. After two years at Berklee, he dropped out and started performing in the T station of Boston. "It was nice to see music break boundaries, where all kinds of people were into it," he says, noting that he collected fan signatures on the lyric book he carried back then. It remains one his prized possessions. Along the way, Bowman found his way into the studio, cutting singles and EPs. "Believe" collects those jams, adding a handful of tasty new items as well. Although that might make for a scattershot disc in lesser hands, Bowman’s consistently strong songs and equally solid musicianship render "Believe" a smooth, notably fleshy recording. He may have crafted this project on a shoestring budge, but it sure doesn’t sound like it – particularly on the up tempo set-opener, "Tear My Heart Right Out," as well as on the introspective, single worthy "I Remember." Bowman will be traveling along the East Coast in support of "Believe." Do not miss the chance to see this talented (and oh-so-videogenic) young man in action."
