    Artist description
Many people will say that Barry Williams is a "Television Icon" and is "Pop Culture". Barry Williams is well known for his portrayal of "Greg Brady" from the hit television series The Brady Bunch. Then and now, the "Brady's" are one of America's most loved and admired TV families. From 1969 until 1974, The Brady Bunch aired on Friday night at 8:00 P.M. on ABC. Today, it is one of the highest rated shows, airing twice nightly, on Nick at Nite which reaches more than 72 million households. Barry played the reliable big brother "Greg Brady" for five years and then reprised the character for the various Brady Bunch reunions. In September 1999, The Brady Bunch will be celebrating their 30th Anniversary of the first airing of The Brady Bunch, and to help commemorate this piece of television history, Barry Williams will be releasing his first CD entitled The Return Of Johnny Bravo. "I felt the time was right," Williams said, from the studio in Las Vegas, where the CD was recorded. "I wanted to give something back to the fans who have supported me and the show for so many years, and give something new to the young fans out there as well." "I've done television, I've done Broadway and you can say I've been preparing for this for a long time." The Return Of Johnny Bravo stems from Episode #98 where "Greg" gets a recording contract, but it turns out that the only reason they wanted him was because he "fit the suit." "The CD contains a combination of great songs that hold a special personal meaning to me," said Williams, "Some songs that I didn't write, but wish I had". Songs like: Celebrate, Happy Together, Hip To Be Square, and Drift Away. A few original songs are also on the record, including Johnny's Back, written especially for Barry and this album. The integrity of the music and the overall sound of the CD are current and hip with a few surprises for the "die-hard" Brady fan. In conjunction with the release of Barry's new CD, Barry's #1 best selling book Growing Up Brady-I Was A Teenage Greg which was released in 1992 and has since sold over 280,000 copies will be re-released. This will be a "Special Collector's Edition" featuring updated chapters and never before seen classic photos. Barry has recently moved from Southern California to New York. After dating each other from one coast to the other for four years, Barry Williams and investment banker Eila Mary Matt were married in January of 1999. Their wedding was featured in this year's PEOPLE magazine's "Weddings Of The Year" issue. From television, to best selling author, to entertainer and singer, Barry has enjoyed tremendous success. He completed a successful run in City Of Angels and appeared on Broadway in the first touring production of Pippin. Additionally, he performs regularly for corporations and major universities around the country by delivering a funfilled, interactive, mixture of music and audience participation. Barry Williams has starred in musical theater productions including Victor, Victoria, The Music Man, Oklahoma! and West Side Story to name a few. "Now with the completion of the CD," Williams said, "I'm looking forward to touring." Look for Williams to be out promoting the CD and book this Fall.

'Real life' after the Brady Bunch by FRAN SIKORSKI New Canaan Advertiser August 19, 1999 Is there a "real life" after being part of TV's The Brady Bunch? Yes according to Barry Williams, who played Greg Brady, the oldest son in the TV "fantasy family." Fourteen when he started, he spent five years on the show. Barry Williams now lives in Connecticut with his wife, Eila Matt, an investment banker with Swiss Bank. They met at a tennis resort in Mexico while both were vacationing. ("I changed my group in order to meet her," said the actor.) He talked about his current career during a recent interview at home in Connecticut. For starters, he is beginning a 50-city personal appearance tour to promote his new CD, The Return of Johnny Bravo based on a rock star character on The Brady Bunch show. He'll join other members of his former TV family in the 30th anniversary reunion of The Brady Bunch in September. After five years on network television, many reunions, a film, and countless reruns, members of The Brady Bunch have woven themselves into the fabric of Americana. In I Was a Teenage Greg/Growing Up Brady a book written in 1992 by Barry Williams with MTV editorial director Chris Kreski, and a foreword by Robert Reed, TV father of The Brady Bunch, the handsome actor discussed his relationship with Peter, Bobby, Marcia, Jan, Cindy, Mike, Carol and Alice and the people who played them and the challenges and experiences of a show business childhood. The books is filled with firsthand memories, never-before photos and interviews with the show's cast, crew and the creator of the The Brady Bunch, Sherwood Schwartz. Barry Williams was already a TV veteran when he joined The Brady Bunch case. Since that time his career has expanded beyond Brady reunions to include performing in the first national touring company of City of Angels. He appeared on Broadway in the musical Romance/Romance at the Helen Hayes Theater, and played the title role in Pippin on Broadway and in the first touring production. The actor has starred in They're Playing Our Song, Oklahoma!, The Music Man, Born Yesterday, West Side Story, I Do!, I Do!, Wait Until Dark, and Man of La Mancha. He performs regularly for corporations and colleges around the country including headlining in Las Vegas, and just ended a run of Guys and Dolls as Sky Masterson at Tri-Arts at the Sharon Playhouse. About his guest artist contract with Tri-Arts at the Sharon Playhouse, Barry Williams said, "I bring a different quality to what they're doing to create a focus. The role of Sky Masterson is similar to Harold Hill in The Music Man. there are qualities in both of them in terms of drive, wit, intelligence, and control...I would like to do The Music Man on Broadway. I'm working about 200 nights a year on the road, and keep hoping for my schedule to fall into a normal range. Child Actor In a chapter of his book titled "Child Actor...to be or not to be," the actor asks, "It is worth the price of foregoing childhood interests and activities to get a start on a career?" His reply, "In some businesses an early start can be an advantage. Not so in show business. The demands and expectations for an actor are completely different for kids than adults. Kids are basically expected to be energetic, natural, adorable, reliable and most importantly directable." "On The Brady Bunch, we were essentially required to be ourselves. The difference, of course, was that we were not a real family, and the situations our characters found themselves in were designed more for entertainment than reality. We were actors, balancing our workload, who spent the better part of five years growing up on a soundstage." "I consider myself and our group extraordinarily lucky to have had a producer and a studio teacher who insisted we be allowed to remain kids and a studio that supported the notion, and lucky we had a TV mom and dad who were sensitive to the inherent problems of our circumstances," said the actor, who is updating three chapters of his book on the whereabouts of the Brady family. Married on Jan 30 of this year, Barry Williams said he and his wife have an apartment and office in New York City, but wanted to have a home in Connecticut. "We've found just what we wanted in Connecticut and we like the old world charm here, the renovated railroad station, and the shops on Elm Street. The town is so small you get to know the store owners, and it was a big change for me because I came from Los Angeles. The setting is peaceful and I feel very rejuvenated before beginning a 50-city tour and appearances on radio and TV shows." Doing 20 consecutive radio interviews at the time of this interview, the actor said, "I wake up and say to myself, 'What am I going to talk about this time?'" A busy schedule also includes voice lessons, "tune-ups" said the actor, because I sing an awful lot." Asked what question he is most often asked as a former member of The Brady Bunch family, Barry Williams replied, "People want to know if we really get along. we do and we talk, and are planning to be together on Aug. 21 for the cover of People Magazine for the 30th anniversary of the show." Frequently asked for show business advice by young hopefuls, Barry Williams said, "Use yourself as the instrument and be clear in your approach so the audiences can participate with you, and do it with some degree of confidence." "As a special guest artist at Tri-Arts in Sharon, it was a special treat for me because the large cast (of mixed ages) was so gracious in welcoming me." "I consider myself very fortunate because the theatrical world has embraced me without having the association of the show work against me, but I had to work very hard at first to create opportunities, singing on cruise ships and in Las Vegas, and now there is an ambitious tour coming up in September." Looking ahead, Barry Williams said, "Thank God for the theater. In the years since the "Bunch," I have played in musical and stage productions virtually everywhere in the country and landed on Broadway a couple of times, and I haven't turned my back on TV...so as you can see we all turned out fine, and there's not a bad banana in the Bunch
