Artist History
The group was founded in the winter of 1992, in Timisoara. The name is the Romanian for "Pointed Arch".The sound and the image of that period was gruft-rock.The first album, called "Catehism", was released in January 1994.The lyrics were influenced by the Romanian "damned" poet George Bacovia. The group was formed at that time by : Florin Turta (voice and guitar), Ciprian Costache (guitar), Mihai Surdea (bass), Oliver Werth (keyboards) and guest on drums Francis Bartalis (from Damnat). This first album was not well distribuited because the record company (Studio Recording System) was not specialised in any underground production. After a few changes in the componence, Arc Gotic began in 1996 the work for a new album "Decadent" which was recorded in the winter of 1997 and released in June 1998.This was the first title of a new underground label from Timisoara, named Htonian Records. The present componence is : Ciprian Costache (voice & guitar), Florin Turta (percussion & harmonica), Florin Ban (violin) and Ciprian Bun (bass).A main difference is that the lyrics are in English and, for some live performances, the French is used. The lyrics are influenced by romanticism and decadentism and, some of them, by the Romanian writer Panait Istrati. The songs are conceived as paintings as the titles suggests and very often send the listener to ideal places. The musical genere one might include the band into is cold-wave, having influences from post-punk, gothic rock and romantic. |
