Artist description Spontaneously composed rock music was the idea. We were three guys from a garage band who got together to do some really low budget recording on a Tascam 238, but it turned out incredibly good. The lyrics were made up spontaneously by Steve Martin - rock lyrics made up on the fly - hence our name.

Artist History Back in '91, we had been playing together in a garage band for about a year, but it broke up when the bass player/lyricist left town to seek work elsewhere. I (Bob) had been interested in home recording and bought a Tascam 238 which records 8 tracks onto casette tape. I had this idea of creating music "on the fly" - just start playing and let it happen without any prior work. I knew I could play guitar and Russ could pick up on it with drums with no problem, but I was rather shocked and pleasantly surprised when Steve started spontaneously making up lyrics that actually sounded good and made sense. We got together once a week starting in December of '91 and this lasted until about June of '92. I'd start the Tascam 238 8-track recorder, start playing a guitar part, Russ would peck out a drum part on a Boss Dr. Rhythm DR-550 drum machine which he played live like a typewritter, then Steve would come in with spontaneous lyrics. Then, later in the week I'd add two more guitar parts and a bass line. More recently (Nov 2002 thru Jan 2003) after having all these tapes in storage for about ten years, I transferred the tracks onto my home computer, mixed the tracks, and did some editing using Cool Edit Pro by Syntrillium Software. I then burned the mixes onto CD-R and got them mastered (compressed and EQ'd) at Atone Studios by Barry Michael and Mark Manela in Houston, TX (www.Atone.us).
