Artist History
ADAIR, a five-piece rock band from St. Louis, MO, defies classification. Combining a breathtaking, intense live show with a sincere, uncompromising new brand of music. ADAIR balances a barrage of crunching riffs with gentle, caressing melodies, executing all this with heartfelt conviction and gut-wrenching passion.
Originally known as DISTURBING THE PEACE, ADAIR has been climbing up through the ranks of the Midwest’s fluctuating music scene for the past seven years, watching many of their peers come and go. They released their debut album Planet Nine while still in high school, gaining local respect and building up a large fan base at a fairly young age. Thus began many years of playing everything from basement shows to sold out concerts in support of larger acts throughout the Midwest.
While still under the name DISTURBING THE PEACE, ADAIR independently released their second album The New Ice Age, side-stepping the slew of New Metal bands they are often pigeonholed with and declaring a sound of their own. The differences between Planet Nine and The New Ice Age reveal the band’s transformation and growth from a naive concoction of various influences and raw talent, to a rich, sophisticated blend of refined talent, intelligent songwriting, and eloquent lyrics. The album has done quite well since its release in late February 2001, making Billboard Magazine’s “Heatseekers” chart in its first week of sales.
The musical energy shared between these five musicians radiates from the stage in giant shockwaves and the solidity of their live show gains the band immediate respect wherever they play. Frontman Rob Tweedie’s passionate, jarring vocals intermingle with the driving, yet layered and melodic guitars of Josh Goldenhersh and James Grossenheider, and the unfaltering rhythm section of bassist Josiah Werner and drummer Mike Jost. ADAIR swirls from soft whispering to a sonic explosion, sliding back and forth between extremes that at their calmest resemble the elaborate texture of Radiohead or Failure and at their heaviest resemble Glassjaw or Thursday.
ADAIR is currently writing new material and recording with engineer/producer John Pessoni, former drummer of The Urge. |
