Artist History
Raudy Steele was born in El Paso, TX, on January 13, 1981. He moved to Albuquerque, NM as a preteen and took up guitar, singing, and songwriting, eventually starting a band, Waiting For Rachel, with a high school friend.
Steve Civerolo was born in Albuquerque, NM, on June 10, 1983. His father had just recently come off the road with his band, hanging out with legends such as The Who and others. Steve got his first guitar after many years of piano lessons. His father gave him a few lessons and permission to use his amplifier and the road was paved for a lifetime of slowly going deaf.
Steve met Mike Karlstrum shortly thereafter. Mike was born in Denver, CO on November 11, 1983, and moved to Albuquerque, NM, at age 10. At eleven and twelve years of age, Steve and Mike started a band, Tigris, which eventually became Simple Poets. Tired of having candy thrown at them when they played live, they needed another dedicated member who could unite with them. Towards the end of August, Raudy Steele, a recommendation from a friend, met Steve and Mike at Mike's house (now known as Mike's parents' house). Instead of watching the fires of Woodstock '99 that night, they wrote songs which are still live staples to this day. The various band lineups from this period included Dreams in Grey, Infinity's Prayer, Unbecoming, and Struck Blind.
Jon Morgan joined UTOPIAN on 10-01-03 after having known Mike for years. He is the most hard working and creative bass player we have ever had...he even carries his own amp!
We currently have 11 completed homemade tracks done and are shopping our demo out to record companies. In November we head west to record our own silver disc. As of right now we are able to keep booking, recording and playing in and out of state without the slightest hesitance. |
