Artist History
In February of 2002 Sam Hindmarsh, a working solo acoustic guitarist and song writer and Todd Singleton, a local circuit drummer, came together in a small rehearsal room in Raleigh, NC to begin laying the foundation for what would become Lassiter Mill’s unique sound.
A few weeks into the project they invited Robert Shaw, a classically trained violinist from Chapel Hill, to sit in for a session. His knowledge of music theory and technical ability immediately enhanced the overall quality of the compositions. The three spent the summer adding to existing scores and throwing around ideas for new, original material.
In September Lassiter Mill took the stage at a private party and debuted the music for the first time. Little did they realize that Justin Snyder, the guy recruited to run the soundboard for that show would later join the band. He joined rehearsals on the mandolin for The Song of Eve, a song he helped Sam compose. Almost immediately the band also included his electric guitar into the mix. The addition of a lead guitar and extra strings quickly opened the bands sound to an even broader audience.
Throughout it’s duration the group kept up a vigilant search for the right bassist instead of just playing with the first available. Typical bass players came and went but the search finally ended in October when Jay Rehm, the former bassist for the Chapel Hill band We The People, came on board to play electric, acoustic, and bass clarinet.
