Artist description
Diversity was originally founded by Matthew Alan Doran in the summer of 2002 to be a tribute band to Dave Matthews. Matt recruited Thane Schweyer to play the guitar, Chris Yantz on bass guitar, Dave Somers on Saxophones, Brett Ranieri as the vocalist and he played drums. Through out the summer of 2002 the band searched for a violinist to complete the crew, but were unsuccessful in this attempt. As the year went on, the band continued to practice until Matt fell ill. On December 4, 2002 Matthew Alan Doran passed away leaving many people heart broken at the loss of such an amazing person. The band felt like they had been torn apart without the presence of their founding member and wasn’t sure if they would ever play again. But in mid-December Thane Schweyer had an idea, what if they played at a tribute concert for Matt? All the guys agreed that this would be an appropriate way to continue on with the band, not only as a tribute to Dave Matthews, but also as a tribute to their great friend Matt. One question remained though, who would play drums in Matt's spot? This was when the band turned to their friend Zach Schaffer to fill in for Matt. With the aquisition of violinist Salmon Kalkhoran the band was completed and they began to practice around the clock in order to make their debut in a tribute to Matt a success. With the show coming closer by the minute, the band struggled to come up with a name. They choose diversity because of all the diverse religious backgrounds within the group. Diversity performed for the first time together on stage on January 17th, at the tribute concert for Matt Doran. Up until this point that was their only performance, but they hope to take the stage again soon in order to honor one of their best friends Matthew Alan Doran. |
