Artist History
Born in New Haven, CT, in 1974, guitarist / singer Timo Arthur began playing guitar at age eight. Hailing from a family of musicians, his mother played cello and piano, his grandfather was a singer / drummer / bandleader, and his father played guitar and piano around the house. His father showed him the basics of guitar and before too long, Timo was performing at school shows. From there, Timo knew at a young age that he wanted to make a life out of playing music.
Throughout his teens, he played with a handful of bands taking on a range of duties from playing guitar and bass to singing and songwriting. He also gave many solo performances for which he often received standing ovations. Timo made his first studio recording at age nineteen, consisting of a few pop songs he had written and playing all instruments himself. A year later, he moved to his father's native Barbados where within days of his arrival, he was chosen as lead guitarist for one of the country's top-billed soca / calypso bands. With this band, he played venues ranging from the island's most popular clubs to packed stadiums. Shortly thereafter, he decided to pursue a career in American blues and left Barbados to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA.
While in Boston, Timo cultivated his own style by frequenting local blues jams. Drawing upon his greatest influences such as Freddie King and Albert Collins, he was well received and became known for his laid back style and passionate musical presence. Honored with mutual respect and friendship, Timo began to share bills with such acclaimed artists as Brian Templeton, K.D. Bell, Weepin' Willie Robertson, The Woodburn / Arena Band, Sweet Willie 'D', and others - as well as opening for Hubert Sumlin at B.B. King's Manhattan club.
Timo also collaborated with Brian Templeton and Matt Woodburn to record their demo CD under the band name, The Tremors. From there, Templeton called upon Timo to tour with him in the summers of 2001 and '02. In May of '02, Timo headed into the recording studio once again to work on his own demo CD, which Templeton offered to produce.
With a deep and unwavering appreciation for legendary guitarists, Timo continues to work tirelessly to refine his craft. In the future, he hopes to venture into the international blues scene, while continuing to share the gospel of blues throughout the States. Aside from scheduled performances, Timo is often asked to sit in with friends such as Michelle Willson, Toni Lynn Washington, Tim Gearan, Nicole Nelson, and others.
