Artist History MALEFICENTIA was created in 1998 by Aragoth, who was then an eminent member of MOSOLEUM (Black Metal). Desirous to explore a new way where brutality and symphony could be mixed together, and where the keyboard would have a real part to play, he dispatched Camazoth (guitar) and Nergal (bass), who were already recruited, in search of other musicians. At that time, Molkhor joined the band as the drummer, while Lolth inherited the keyboard. MALEFICENTIA already mastered several creations when Balrog comes to complete the band. In october 1999, an album is ready to be recorded : with this purpose, the band enters the Awake Studio. Entitled « Born of Steel and Fire », this first opus lasting more than 50 minutes comes into being in the spring 2000, and fills with enthousiasm the critics. Sometimes quoted as one of the first great names of the French Black Metal scene, MALEFICENTIA sets off without a break to conquer his audience, and samples the pleasures of the stage. But this brilliant epic quickly comes to an end, in the fall 2000, when the band is weakened by some problems in its line-up. Lolth, Nergal et Camazoth definitively quit MALEFICENTIA. For his part, Balrog prefers to give oneself to other projects (he actually renowns through BALROG and GARWALL). Rapidly however, Arpad joins Aragoth and Molkhor (nowadays drummer of MALEFICENTIA and of GARWALL), at the end of 2000. The faithful soldiers of the shadow set out again to look for new members worthy of giving back to MALEFICENTIA his past glory… Several months goes by before Daevhorn (AVE TENEBRÆ, MATER TENEBRARUM) and Ashragon (AVE TENEBRÆ, COLLAPSUS) integrate into the new group, mid -2001, respectively singing and playing guitar. In the fall 2001, MALEFICENTIA is made up, with the arrival of Svarog (bass). The band works during a whole year to perfect his second album, « Under the Banner of Suffering », recorded between november 2002 et january 2003. This album is produced by MELANCHOLIA RECORDS in march 2003.
