Artist description
Singer/Songwriter:
I was born and raised near the small town of Buckhannon, West Virginia. I was surrounded by a family who was active with music. My brother, aunts, uncles, and cousins, played guitar, banjo, mandolin and sang. It wasn't out of the ordinary to sit by the campfire on a summer night and sing country songs.
Growing up I listened to Patsy Cline, Alabama, Reba McIntire, Hank Williams, Jr and many more. The first time I listened to Patsy Cline I fell in love with country music. From that moment on music and singing became an important part of my life. At an early age of five, I was singing in church and by thirteen I was performing with my cousin's band.
Throughout school I was active in music and sports, participating in show choir, band, cheerleading, gymnastics, ice-skating, and dancing. These activities have helped prepare me to become a better performer on stage. Upon completion of high school I attended colleges where I studied Dance and Psychology. My focus was on Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Tap, and Choreography. I received a B.A. in Dance from West Virginia University and an A.A. in Dance from Monterey Peninsula College in California. I also received a B.A. in Psychology from West Virginia University.
I also took voice lessons and some acting classes in college. I was a member of the Orchesis Dance Ensemble and Mountain State Jazz Ensemble. I believe dancing has helped me become a better performer and I love to choreograph moves to my songs. Throughout college I performed at festivals, fairs and talent shows in West Virginia and other states.
It was during college that I began writing my own songs and started working on a CD that would be entirely composed of original songs that I wrote. I recorded these songs at a small studio near my home. Upon completion of this album titled "All I Want", I decided to release my first song to the independent charts. My first release was "Hero" which went to #1 in August of 2000 on Indie Tracker. "Caught Me Lookin" was my follow up single which also went to #1 on Inside Country in May of 2001. My third release - "All I Want" was released in the fall of 2001 and climbed up the Indie World charts reaching #3.
Being named "New Female Vocalist" of the year at the Golden Music Awards in Nashville on June 17, 2001 was a big thrill to me. It was so exciting. I continue to write songs and perform as much as possible.
From the fall of 1997 through spring 2002, I owned and operated a dance studio called Kelly's Academy of Dance. The studio was located in my hometown of Buckhannon, WV. I love being involved in music and dance. I enjoy performing - whether in front of ten or thousands of people.
Singing professionally has always been a dream of mine and it is exciting to see how I have grown with my music. I feel blessed to have wonderful parents who have supported me. They are two of my biggest fans. I am thankful for the Lord up above and look to Him each day for guidance. I hope I can reach many people with my music and make a difference in their lives.
