Artist History Somewhere between a rock band and a hard place lays Harmony in Kaos. Formed in 2000, this four-piece value meal based out of Calabasas, CA has thrust into the ever-evolving punk/metal/progressive rock scene with tenacious energy. HK started out like many bands, in back yards and living rooms at friends' house parties, previously (and not always seriously) known as The Hate, We Don't Know Yet, and likely, This Band My Buddy's In (as in " Want to go see this band? I don't know what it's called-it's 'this band my buddy's in'"). Band name and personnel changes are par for the course for a budding group, which fortunately all parties understand. Former lead singer Chris Kelly recently parted ways with HK due to creative differences. "I wish things could have been different, but this is how it ended. I've made some good friends from this and I will continue to support them," quotes Kelly on the band's message board. As for the "harmony" in Harmony in Kaos, it derives from the band's ability to fuse together musically and creatively. Songwriting and music are a team effort, and the group benefits tremendously from each member's own unique style. "Sometimes after we finish a song that absolutely jammed, where everyone just rocked on their part, there's a minute or so when we kind of stand there, stunned. Then after the goose bumps go away, it's high fives all around," says drummer Cooper. "At first, it was just about playing music and having fun," says guitarist McCalla. "Now, we do it for the groupies." While groupies are always an added incentive, HK really is about playing music and having fun. "We're basically just regular guys who share a passion for music," explains Cooper. "A lot of what's going on in the music scene right now seems to be really image-oriented. Our image is that we don't have an image-we're just doing our thing." Doing their "thing," includes past performances at landmark L.A. venues The Whiskey a Go-GO, The Knitting Factory Hollywood and The Troubadour. These shows have built confidence within the band and created exciting opportunities, including a clothing sponsorship from skateboard apparel magnate Ezekiel clothing (as gratuitously modeled on stage and in photos). With an increasing Mp3.com following and upcoming release "All in a Day's Work," HK's "thing" seems to be coming along swimmingly.
