Artist description
Northwestern University intends to produce Nobel laureates, renowned scholars and savvy businessmen. Sometimes it spits out a rock band.
Forming just outside Chicago in 2000, Bleeding Charity escaped the gravity of the cluttered college band world and built a local following that came out to hear and experience the unique songs the boys had penned.
Today, armed with compelling melodies and insightful lyrics about life and faith, Bleeding Charity offers acoustic rock sincerity blended with flavors of folk and hip-hop. Fusing the talents of Jed Brewer (Vocals/Guitar), Adam Hoskinson (Bass/Vocals) and Carl Peterson (Guitar), the band takes distinct songwriting and creates a performance built around charisma and high energy, with a relentless desire to play music with passion and creativity.
With the flexibility to perform either as a three-piece acoustic act or as a four-piece rock band with the addition of a drummer, Bleeding Charity’s performances can fit into any musical environment – everything from a cozy coffeehouse to a lively nightclub to a packed auditorium.

Artist History
Bleeding Charity traces its roots back to 1999, when a transfer student from the University of Arkansas named Lucas Rogers arrived at Northwestern University in Chicago and met a sophomore named Jed Brewer. Sharing a common passion for music, the two spent the next year conspiring in the occasional songwriting session, oftentimes being joined by a freshman named Carl Peterson who was teaching himself to play the guitar at the time.
By the start of the 2000-01 school year, the three were playing semi-regularly on their acoustic guitars in various vacant rooms in the music fraternity house on campus. Although the songs they wrote were acoustic and mellow, they were begging for a fuller noise. And so, in January of 2001, the trio invited friends Adam Hoskinson and Jeff Newburg to play bass guitar and drums with them.
After spending the winter term rehearsing and arranging those acoustic tunes they had written, the quintet debuted at the Artist's Showcase for the Veritas Forum on a Friday night in April. They would play two more shows that spring before Adam left for Ohio and Jeff went to Seattle for the summer. Shortly after leaving, Jeff let the guys know that he had decided to leave the band.
Jed, Lucas and Carl spent the summer recording many of the band's songs in the notorious Delta Upsilon fraternity house, in a room Jed and Carl had rented for the summer. Adam came up from his home in Kettering, Ohio to record his tracks in July. Jed, having a strong percussive background, played the drums for the recording. The band wrapped up their recording session in mid-August, having finalized a six-song CD titled "Lesser Children."
During the following school year, the guys played shows in the Evanston area. They also recorded a second demo with Chicago-area producer John Vita. In April of 2002, Lucas decided to leave the band to do full-time missions work overseas for at least a year. Jed, Adam and Carl decided that the show would go on, and continued to play.
In the summer and early fall, with Jed and Carl having graduated into the 'real world,' and Adam preparing for his final year at Northwestern, the band rallied any and all of the musical and producing talents they'd been blessed with and recorded an 11-song debut LP titled "Letters From A Dormitory Misfit" . They continued to book and play shows to support this album through the end of 2002.
Which brings us to the present day. We're continually on the lookout for shows to play, in order to continue to build our following in the Chicago area. We're also looking for a record deal and the chance to go full-time with our music.
