Artist description SHIVA COPAL's home base of operations is lovely NYC, from whence songs of love, longing, abandonment and confusion are written, and played at gigs wherein love, longing, abandonment and confusion are the dominant themes. In a post-hardcore, post-indie, post-punk, post-everything world, SHIVA COPAL is here to tie it all together; to weave the anger, harmony, sweetness, discontent, melody and contentment into the songs that could tell the story of your life. SHIVA COPAL is dedicated to writing the personal anthem; driving songs with a sense of melody, hooks and dynamics, telling personal stories very loudly (or softly). SHIVA COPAL defined itself immediately with melodic, but punchy guitar- driven hymns celebrating the best and worst of life. The songs betray a childhood influenced by hardcore and punk, coming into a maturity marked by slavish devotion to hooks and melody, with songs alternating from hard, crunchy anthems to some ethereal, spacey songs. Guitar lines slink and slide through a rhythmic thicket of bass and drums. The vocal melodies bob and weave through the chaos. Anyone who loves the sound of mid-nineties indie; shoegazy brit-rock; old-school, east coast hardcore, and just plain pop will have something to take home with them.

Artist History SHIVA COPAL formed in August of 2000, from the remains of NJ shore band, BROKEN ATLANTIC, namely Glenn, Joseph and David. They were later joined by recusants from local NJ/NY bands, STANDPOINT and BLACK SONNY. The current line up, including Christïane, Reilly and Will, eventually solidified in October of 2002, and the quintet has been gigging frequently in the NJ/NY area ever since.
