Artist description
ORANGE COUNTY, CA -- Some say the sound is reminiscent of U2, The Cure, Depeche Mode, The Police and perhaps others of recent years. But Modern Diction describe themselves and their music as Electronic Rock that features a blend of keyboards and samples with guitar driven song structures.
Frontman and bass guitarist, Jonathan Hale, notes about the band’s sound, “It’s simple, yet powerful. It’s unique, it connects fans with things they struggle with in their lives and their memories, and deep down, who they are.”
Often called introspective and moody, Modern Diction’s music evokes emotion, feeling and deeper thought. “You can move to our sound,” adds Hale. “But it’s written to move you personally. It doesn’t follow trends or standard approaches. We hope the music creates energy among our fans. It’s honest, simple and self-reflective.”
The band’s members hail from all over greater L.A., but have come together and centralized in O.C. This is a region that reminds some of the environs of Liverpool of four decades and several generations ago. It’s a melting pot and the music surfacing from there seems to take its own path… maybe a bit rough-edged, but certainly filled with feeling and self-reflection.
Modern Diction is spawning a breakaway sound of its own, rooted in the trenches of Orange County.
No, Modern Diction doesn’t fancy themselves as a modern-day “British Invasion”, but their unique sound seems to rise up and smack you just the same.
The band is moving quickly in its own directions and along its own paths, not down the roads of many of the more standard streets where listeners find much of music fare today. Fans attest to the feeling that Modern Diction’s sound connects and presents a powerful message.
