Artist description
Once up on a time, in a flat flat land
(Nebraska), not far enough away, a young
girl was born to a hippy chick and red neck.
While the Coors Light, cow tipping, peace
marching romance didn't last for long, the
young girl grew up on dreams of guitars,
music, and traveling to far off, not so flat
lands. Besides that one mullet hair cut,
Shyle, a chick with a guitar, left Nebraska
reasonably unscathed at the age of 10,
and moved a small town in Southern
California known as Ojai (said best with
a valley girl accent, "oh-HI!"). By 15, Shyle
had placed her dreams of becoming a
singer on the backburner and began to
cultivate her dreams of the silver screen.
Shyle took acting lessons for approximately
4 years and studied under Kim Maxwell-
Brown. This off the cuff, run with your
instincts training that she learned during
this time is still apparent to this day in
Shyle's musical performances. After
spending four years in the theater ,
Shyle once again realized that her heart
was bound to singing and music making.
What instruments has she played? Well,
besides being an expert at the nose flute,
Shyle played the recorder (age 10), the
clarinet (age 11), the piano (age 12-16),
and yes, she was a band geek, but is not
able to boast of ever going to band camp.
What instrument did she play in marching
band? Xylophone, a little more
cumbersome than a flute. At 17 Shyle
began to teach herself to play guitar. Her
mother taught her little hippy chick daughter
her first four chords, and yes, they were from
a Peter, Paul and Mary tune. And however
cliché it may be, on that first night she learned
those chords, she played to her fingers bled
(sheesh- how artistically tragic can you get),
By 18 Shyle was writing her own music and
by 19 she began to perform at open mics
around Southern California. The first of which
has become somewhat of a Ventura legend,
the Teltron Cafe in Ventura, CA (hosted by
Dennis Daniels). Shyle's first album was
recorded the summer of 2000 with Brian
Parra of Blackbird Music in the beautiful
town of Oxnard, CA. Currently, Shyle lives
in Portland, OR where she is plays on their
burgeoning music scene. Shyle is one of the
few independent artists that can boast that
she has played all the way from Nebraska to
Bangkok (yes that's Thailand, no joke). She
is working on her second album, Love and
the Lack thereof, which she plans to have
recorded by June 2003. |
