    Artist History
In March of 1977, a young mother knew there was something unique about the baby growing inside her. It was hard for her not to notice the percussive-accompaniment to Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline" reverberating in her stomach. Such began the musical career of Bryan Master. Born on a late June morning in beautiful southern New Jersey, Bryan began life as a musician almost as soon as his limbs began working…banging on pots, pans, his siblings… pretty much anything he could find. Now all grown up, this drummer-turned-front man is based in New York City as a singer/songwriter performing profound and passionate live shows in support of his independently released, debut album, “Lost at Sea”. At the ripe age of 26, he has recorded at some of the most fabled studios in Los Angeles, and his band plays to packed rooms at some of the most renowned clubs in LA and New York City. “Lost at Sea” essentially became the culmination of a quarter century’s worth of life. The title itself sums up the album - a collection of pop-rock songs about being young, coming of age and feeling, essentially, “lost at sea”. With topics ranging from disillusion to confusion, love gained to love lost, knowledge to ignorance, elation to frustration, Bryan has transposed these themes into thought-provoking and sometimes “tongue-in-cheek” sarcastic stabs - unveiling to the listener his balance between the fine lines of sincerity and humor. His promising lyrics guarantee universality based largely on the strength of his unique and charismatic vocal delivery. With an overall light-hearted and “aquatic” feel, along with a knack for writing extremely contagious pop hooks, he has created an album that he says is very much like himself: “moody”. The eclectic nature of the album, surfing from wave to wave, mood to mood, recalls the artistic experimentations and chances taken by Elvis Costello and, more recently, Beck. Performing nearly all of the instruments himself (drums, piano, guitars, vocals), the bulk of the album’s recording took place in Los Angeles, on two separate recording ventures. In the summer of 2001, with the help of producer Tom O’Brien, he went to LA to work on his first solo recordings, which would become the foundation for “Lost at Sea”. Returning a year later, he spent the summer of 2002 recording several more songs, including “Reunion of Sorts”, “Now or Never” & “Bring Out the Stars”, which would become stand-out tracks on the album. These songs were recorded in such acclaimed LA studios as Hollywood’s Studio 56 (Guns n’ Roses, Sugar Ray) and Cello Studios (Beach Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Weezer). Bryan even had the honor of having world-renowned bassist Phil Chen (Jeff Beck, Pete Townshend, Rod Stewart, the Doors, George Martin) perform on three tracks. He returned to NYC in the fall of 2002 to finish recording and assembled a full backing band to bring these songs to life on stage. The album was officially released in March of 2003. The Cutting Room (NYC) hosted the release party, and was forced to turn fans away at the door after reaching capacity. Critics and fans, alike, have heralded the album, and cuts from “Lost at Sea” have already begun receiving radio airplay in markets such as Austin and Philadelphia. Currently based on the east coast, band in-tow, Bryan can be found regularly playing such New York and Philadelphia clubs as Mercury Lounge, The Cutting Room, Luna Lounge, Baggot Inn, Sidewalk Caf, Pontiac Grille and The Grape St. Pub, both with the full band and acoustically, on his own. Through his passionate and genuine live shows, he has captivated a large and loyal fan-base that returns to pack the clubs time after time.
