Press Reviews
Wallpaper is a side-project for members of New Bad Things, a band whose low-fi and utterly casual approach to bashing pop tunes is a pretty wonderful thing. Wallpaper has the same dimly recorded feel and loose melodicism, but applies them in a much more low-key environment -- New Bad Things' tinny grooves and reckless pop enthusiasm are traded for a sound that's less organic, more oddly constructed, and entirely appealing.- ALL MUSIC GUIDE ************ DOMESTIC LANDSCAPE ACTIVITIES - "Domestic Landscape Activities"Sounds like it was recorded by Brian Wilson underwater and it has me by the ears. It's all I can listen to.The guitars hum,the tapes hum,the sounds of the instruments expand and contract from crystalline percussion to over driven rubberband guitars. They are my favorite band in Portland." - SNIPEHUNT MAGAZINE *********** MAGIC STATIC TREATS - "Wallpaper are a pop band. They may sink their catchy hooks under a blanket of lofi tinnyness, and send their vocals through a warbled trip filter, But the songs come out the other side unscathed by psychedelia. The most memorable tracks are "Hi Roller", which seems to salute a score from some early-'80s action show and "Caravan" a plainly pretty underwater adventure until an uncharacteristic pop punk guitar scatch down pops up to throw us off. This is all part of the enjoyment of Magic Static Treats:Being repeatedly surprised by musical invention within a pop framework. - PUNCTURE MAGAZINE |
