Artist description
Singer/songwriter Jamie Jahan Daruwala's early inspiration culled from beat and alternative groups like The Beatles, Big Star, The Replacements, Cheap Trick, The Posies, and many others became the driving force behind the brilliance of Toy Subs. With guitarist/writer Alex Tittel, bassist/writer Greg Mayfield, and about 1700 drummers (all playing at different times), Toy Subs consistently produced one colorful, energy packed piece of aural candy after another. While listening to Toy Subs, it becomes obvious that the song is key, the lyrics have depth and color, the melody and harmony are infectious, and that there is a common belief among the members of Toy Subs that the music is everything. |

Artist History
What will be written on the tombstone of Toy Subs one day? "What are we doing here?", replies lead singer, Jamie. "Here lies Toy Subs, and why not?", suggests compatriot David St.Hubbins. From Jamie's first New York to Houston flight many years ago, to Jamie and Alex's first meeting at Rice University, to Toy Subs forming and living in a warehouse with phone number 713-toy-subs, to then calling the band Toy Subs for lack of a better name, to a Star Search casting agent "discovering" them at their very first Houston gig (an amateur night no less), to the decision to stay based in Houston, to playing 200+ shows a year of EVERY type, to the occasional bad night, to sharing the stage with many incredible and famous artists, to seeing some of the rest of the world, one would have to say the former epitaph would apply. "If there is anything we learned in the nineties", states TS drummer #165, "it's that there is always another century to look foward to." "Not that there was too much wrong with the last decade.", quips #1217. "In fact, it has been a downright trip so far, bubba." Thanks to all who have been there with us, and as long as we are standing and you are listening, there will be more history to come. Look for the mp3 release of Toy Subs' first attempt at recording, 'Now', and second title, 'Red Floor Sessions', as well as a compilation of recordings we never released. Once this is done, Toy Subs will begin work on brand new songs, and hopefully, a new CD. Thanks again. |
