Stanford Prison Experiment is that rarest of all birds: a rockband, straight up. No frills, furbelows, or dancing horn players.SPE is also one of L.A.'s better-kept secrets - this, despiterequisite hipster associations with the likes of Rage Against theMachine, a just-completed tour with Girls Against Boys, andthis current jaunt with Local H. Suburban angst-rock informedby Iggy and Darby (among others), the band's raucousoutpouring is marked by the slightly snotty vocal inflections ofMario Jiminez; a propulsive, dynamic rhythm section; and thegritty, varied playing of guitarist Mike Starkey.
