Artist History
Jason Haywood: Songwriter (Music & Lyrics) Vocals, Guitar, Bass, and KeysMusical Influences: The Beatles, Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones, Paul Weller, The Doors, Neil Young. Music has always played a central role in Jason Haywood’s life starting with classical piano lessons at the age of nine. His first band experience came at the age of 17 when Jason, and several high school friends formed the Vicars. He eventually left that band to start university, but once again joined the lead singer of the Vicars in the summer of 1992 to form the ‘70’s-style glam rock band Shine. The band later moved to Kingston, Ontario, and recorded an independent, self-titled album, which was produced by Grant Ethier of 13 Engines fame. After the break up of Shine, Jason began his solo career writing. The writing began to lean more toward Jason’s roots-rock influences. Always drawn to early Rolling Stones, Beatles and Doors records, Jason began experimenting with more classic instruments, vintage sounds and recording techniques. He recorded a couple of demos and an independent album under the band name “Sister Fanny.” In the spring of 1999, he decided it was time to integrate all his material and produce a professional-quality album. John Maher, the head engineer at Studio Staccato in Moncton, was brought on as the producer/engineer and later as a session guitarist. Jason also enlisted many veterans of Moncton’s local music scene to help in the making of the record. Many special guests also loaned their talent to this album including: Roland Bourgeois, who played an inspired trumpet solo on ‘I Won’t Let you Down,’ Chris Colepaugh’s and his stellar guitar work on several tracks,’ Roy Gould’s flute solo on ‘Cut Me Down’ and the soulfully-rendered percussion breaks of Chris Mersereau, formerly of Sol, round out the guest ensemble. |
