Artist description
Gbloink! is a piece of fun, and experimental music software I wrote a couple of years ago. The user is presented with a play area in which coloured balls are bouncing, off the sides, off obstacles and off each other. Whenever they collide, they trigger a note. The player manipulates the paths that these balls take, by painting in, and erasing the obstacles, while the balls move. The result is as if the player improvises the performance on several, semi-autonomous instruments at once, guiding the overall flow and character of the music while leaving the melodic detail and rhythmic structures to emerge spontaneously from the interaction of balls and environment. These pieces are selected from hours of recordings of my Gbloink! improvisations. All were recorded using one of the oldest Soundblaster FM based cards, sometimes run through an effects box, and recorded onto cassette. They have now been "digitally remastered" ie. sampled and had the tape noise filtered out by Cool Edit. The Gbloink! program can be downloaded from my website (http://www.gbloink.co.uk) It now works on Windows 3.X and 9X |
