Artist History
Well hello there. The story begins in 1999 with 2
young untalented white boys, Adam and Danny. They
met when Adam moved from Petaluma to Pacifica.
They became freinds when they discovered their
love for Heavy Metal. They didn't even play
instruments yet. Both had older brothers in bands.
Adam's brother played for Rap Metal band Flatline.
R.I.P. and Danny's bro played for Inverness. Adam
was inpired and went out and bought a bass. He got
to try out his skills at a Flatline practice since
their bassist was dropping acid. Danny still didnt
play any instrument. Adam found a love for the
music. He started his first band with his brother
Travis on guitar and Inverness drummer Ryan Kochevar,
They were called Revel. They played covers of
Deftones, Papa Roach and Godsmack. This didn't
last long when Travis joined Inverness and had no
need to continue this. Adam had no band. Danny
had another thing going for him. He was starting
drums playing Ramones and Metallica songs with
premiere peninsula bassist Daniel Piotter. They
sucked. That didn't last long. One day in the
summer of 2001, Adam asked Danny "Hey, wanna
start a band?" He says yes. And so it began.
They started off playing songs by 311,Offspring,
and Blink 182. They figured punk music was alot
better. Danny was taking drum lessons and was
getting better. But they were missing something.
School started up and the search began for a
singer/guitarist. Some kid was passing out promo
flyers for his band Bad Kontrast. Danny and Adam
joked about this for awhile. I mean, who names a
band after a hamburger? Adam decided to check
this out. This young Mexican chap's (so says his
transcript) name was Nick Morales, and he was in
4 of Adam's classes. Since Adam had a vendetta
with the brown, Danny invited Nick to join the
click, so beginning the friendship. Adam and
Nick had guitar class together so Adam got to
hear the skills Nick possessed on guitar. So he
asked him if he wanted to play bass. ? . So they
had their first practice and played Blink 182
songs. Nick sucked at bass. Adam sucked at guitar.
They switched and the band was born. Still no
name for the band. They started playing covers
and writing songs. Originally they went with the
name Misled, but quickly discarded that. They
finally picked a name, Jim Beam & the Renegade
Squirrels. And in February 2002 they played their
first gig, which went over really good. These
young men had talent. They went on to win 2nd
place in their school talent show and things were
going good for the Squirrels. YET. Adam was bored
of bass, he was getting better at guitar and
wanted to play rhythm for the band to make it a
fuller sound. So a new hunt began. For a bassist
who could sing. This was a difficult decision for
them. They only knew 2 young men who played the
bass. Both chinese. hmm. And only 1 week untill
their gig at The Pound in San Francisco, they
finally chose Ryan Ho, the former singer of Bad
Kontrast or BK. So they had practice with him,
and he learned all the songs in one practice.
This impressed the guys so they decided to keep
him. This added more asian flavor to the band.
They played their first gig with Ryan, and he
had so much energy and talent they had to keep
him. They decided the band name was too long and
the Jim Beam beer company would sue them so they
shortened it to The Renegade Squirrels, claiming
that Jim Beam had died. They played a few more
gigs and got sick of that name too. Thus...Slept
Thru High School was born, seeing as how they all
sleep in class, it only seemed right. They are
now writing original and innovative songs and
working extremely hard to live out their dreams.
These young men have lots of potential, which is
proved by their stunning live performances, hard
work, and heavy ambition and talent. So check
these guys out, I think you might like them |
